About the programme

Understanding your symptoms and finding the right care for your digestion

Bloating, heartburn, irregular stools or discomfort after meals can affect your entire day, from food choices to sleep quality. The Digestive recovery programme helps you understand the condition of your digestive system and move from disconnected attempts to relieve symptoms towards a consistent care plan.

The programme is based on the connections between digestion, intestinal motility, food digestion and absorption, the microbiota, stress and metabolism. Similar symptoms can have different causes: irritable bowel syndrome, food intolerances, problems with bile flow or enzyme function, or inflammation. We therefore clarify the medical issue first, then select nutrition, treatment and restorative methods.

Individual herbal support from CALENDULA’s own laboratory, based on Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine traditions, has a special place. It is incorporated into the overall plan with regard to diagnostic findings, tolerance and current medicines.

Who the programme is for

  • For recurring bloating, heartburn, constipation, diarrhoea and abdominal cramps.
  • For suspected food intolerance or a need to review strict dietary restrictions.
  • When digestive concerns are linked with stress, disturbed sleep and overload.
  • For those who have already undergone tests but want a coherent explanation of the results and a plan for what comes next.

Medical assessment and strategy

Personal consultation. The doctor reviews the nature of symptoms, their relationship to meals, bowel habits, weight changes, previous infections and antibiotic courses. Where needed, a food and symptom diary helps identify individual responses.

Laboratory diagnostics. When indicated: a complete blood count and markers of inflammation, liver, pancreatic and kidney function, and protein and carbohydrate metabolism. Ferritin, vitamin B12, folate and other markers help assess possible deficiencies and absorption problems.

Digestive investigations. Stool tests may include calprotectin to assess intestinal inflammation and pancreatic elastase to assess pancreatic function. Breath tests are considered for suspected SIBO — small intestinal bacterial overgrowth — and certain sugar absorption disorders.

Diagnostic investigations. Abdominal ultrasound, gastroscopy, colonoscopy and additional methods are prescribed when clinically necessary. Specialist examination is arranged when indicated. Microbiota analysis remains an additional tool and does not, by itself, determine a diagnosis or a set of supplements.

Setting priorities. Results are considered alongside symptoms: what requires treatment, where diet matters, and where work on routines and the gut–brain axis — the interaction between the digestive and nervous systems — is important.

Blood in the stool, unexplained weight loss, increasing pain, repeated vomiting, jaundice or difficulty swallowing require timely medical assessment; sudden deterioration requires urgent care.

A programme tailored to you

Duration depends on the cause of symptoms and the amount of care needed. The course includes assessment, a review of results, personalised treatment and final recommendations, without having to fit a fixed 7-, 14- or 21-day schedule.

Medical care. Treatment of the identified condition, management of constipation or diarrhoea, enzyme support and correction of confirmed deficiencies are selected according to diagnostic results.

Personalised nutrition. A suitable meal routine, sources of protein and dietary fibre, adjustment of fats and gradual dietary expansion. Where necessary, a temporary low-FODMAP strategy is used: limiting certain fermentable carbohydrates followed by food reintroduction under specialist supervision.

Microbiota support. Dietary fibre, tolerated fermented foods, prebiotics and specific probiotic strains are selected according to symptoms. Dietary variety and tolerance matter more than the number of prescribed products.

CALENDULA herbal medicine. Personalised Ayurvedic and TCM formulations are selected with regard to digestive concerns, liver and kidney function, sensitivity to ingredients and drug interactions.

Body treatments. Abhyanga is a gentle oil massage; Shirodhara is a relaxing treatment applying liquid to the forehead; Udvartana is herbal powder massage. Acupuncture, reflexotherapy and local moxa warming may complement work on tension and stress-associated discomfort.

Routine and recovery. Breathing practices, qigong, gentle forms of tai chi, activity within your ability and work on sleep. Nutritional products are selected as needed; infusions are considered only when there is a specific medical need.

Treatments are determined after the initial examination, taking account of indications, contraindications and current treatment. Traditional methods complement, rather than replace, treatment of an established condition.

Course goals and final consultation

We assess the severity of discomfort, bowel habits, food tolerance and response to treatment. You receive a clear explanation of results, treatment and nutrition recommendations, a plan for expanding your diet and a follow-up schedule. This is a personalised foundation for ongoing digestive care, not a universal lifelong diet.

7-day programme

  • Therapeutic exercises for mobility, posture and gentle activation of the core muscles.
  • Restorative yoga and qigong.
  • Diaphragmatic breathing and relaxation training.
  • Walking and manageable physical activity.

Education

  • Regular meals and an unhurried eating pace.
  • Observing the relationship between stress, sleep and digestion.
  • Review of eating habits and planning meals you can comfortably enjoy at home.

  • Discussion of prebiotic foods and whether probiotic support is appropriate for your specific needs.

At the end of your stay

You receive recommendations on foods and routine, a home exercise programme and a plan for gradual dietary changes. Symptoms requiring further investigation are discussed. Assessment is based on symptoms and food tolerance, without a promise to completely “restore the microbiome” in a week.

Treatments are selected after the initial examination, taking indications and contraindications into account.

14-day programme

Ayurvedic care and nutrition for recovery

Consultations and monitoring

  • Assessment of digestive symptoms, nutrition, current treatment and coexisting conditions.
  • Checking the suitability of the selected Ayurvedic treatments.
  • Monitoring appetite, bowel movements, food tolerance, well-being and fluid balance.
  • Interim consultations and adaptation of the programme.

Ayurvedic treatments

  • Preparation of nutrition and routine according to individual tolerance.
  • Snehana: external oil application; internal methods are considered only as a separate specialist prescription.
  • Gentle Abhyanga and suitable heat treatments in the absence of contraindications.
  • Virechana as a possible, but not mandatory, stage of an individual Ayurvedic plan.

If a cleansing stage is unsuitable, the programme continues with gentle treatments, nutrition and restorative practices. This list does not mean that cleansing is prescribed to every patient.

Restoring the diet

  • Gradual menu expansion with cooked vegetables, grains and suitable protein sources.
  • Assessment of nutritional adequacy and reactions to new foods.
  • Planning a home menu without prolonged, unjustified dietary restrictions.

Movement and rest

  • Gentle therapeutic exercise and walking.
  • Restorative yoga, qigong and breathing practices.
  • Relaxation massage according to tolerance.
  • Adjusting activity to well-being and the stage of recovery.

Practical digestive support

  • Discussion of prebiotic foods and whether probiotic support is appropriate for your specific needs.
  • Dipana-Pachana before the selected Snehana module; after any Virechana — restorative nutrition and gradual dietary expansion.
  • Suitable device-based treatments or pressotherapy only when they are suitable for your stage of recovery.

At the end of your stay

You receive a final assessment of symptoms, a list of tolerated foods and a plan for further menu expansion. Activity routines and what to do if symptoms return are discussed separately. Results are assessed through digestive comfort and tolerance of adequate nutrition.

Treatments are selected after the initial examination, taking indications and contraindications into account.

21-day programme

At the end of your stay

You receive a personalised record of food reactions and recommendations on nutrition, movement and restoring routine. The plan sets out next steps for persistent symptoms and the need for medical monitoring. A longer course allows time to adapt habits, but does not guarantee elimination of every cause of digestive discomfort.

Treatments are selected after the initial examination, taking indications and contraindications into account.
