Collagen is a natural substance primarily found in joints, ligaments, tendons, cartilage, and the skin. As we age, its production decreases.

Collagen is administered in injection form around the damaged tissues, muscles, and joints (periarticularly). This increases collagen levels and production and improves tissue circulation. Through the regeneration of tissues and cartilage, pain and inflammation are reduced, which leads to improved joint mobility. The overall result depends on the location and severity of the injury. It is applied as a course of treatment, typically in 4–6 sessions.

In our clinic, we use MD GUNA collagen (medical collagen), a peptide molecule that can be applied not only for joints but also for the regeneration of small spinal joints and cartilage, unlike hyaluronic acid injections, which can only be administered into joints.

Main areas of application of collagen injections:

The collagen injection supplements the local connective tissue’s own collagen, supports the rebuilding of fibers, and thereby may improve tissue elasticity and stability.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

The number of injections needed is determined by the doctor depending on the patient’s clinical condition. In most cases, 2–3 injections per week are required. Pain relief can already be noticeable after the first three treatments.

Hyaluronic acid is important for proper joint lubrication, but it only works inside the joint. Collagen injections, on the other hand, affect joint stability and smooth function, as well as tendons and muscles, so they have a more complex effect. Hyaluronic acid and collagen injections can also be used in parallel; however, collagen therapy has a broader range of effects.

Absorption of dietary supplements containing gelatin (collagen) is significantly influenced by digestive enzymes in the stomach. In contrast, collagen therapy delivers collagen directly into the painful joints, ensuring effective absorption.

Collagen therapy is a well-tolerated, safe treatment that involves minimal intervention.
After injection treatments, mild redness, swelling, or tenderness may occur, but these usually resolve within a few days.
