The beginnings

Our story is, above all, a true account of healing patients from all over the world. At the same time, it is a clear example of how friendship, dedicated professionalism, and a sincere desire to help can lead to remarkable results.

In June 1991, we registered our company in Hungary under the name CALENDULA. At that time, we only had ideas about learning phytotherapy and massage techniques, and we were planning, in a long-term perspective, to establish a clinic where different medical systems would be integrated into the treatment protocol.
Knowledge is an essential requirement for the development of any institution, and in the health system it is particularly important as it is also a huge responsibility.

In fact, we founded a school where we taught the principles of a healthy lifestyle—energy-based methods, the basics of physiotherapy, and vegetarian nutrition systems. Our students became dedicated learners driven by a passion for healing. Some of them initially had no healthcare qualifications, but later mastered the fields of anatomy, physiology, and phytotherapy, earned specialized degrees, and became close friends and allies. We are grateful for all this to Pálma Bede – director of Calendula Bt. –, Ilona Kollár – founder of the phytolaboratory –, as well as our other colleagues, whose unity helped our rehabilitation practice grow into a clinic.

Search for a path / Finding a direction

Every new patient represents a new challenge for us. Our task is to seek and find the solution that leads to complete healing!

During our search, we also turned to the experience of past healers. Hippocrates, Galen, Avicenna, and Charaka left us a vast legacy for the development of medicine. Building on our own experience and practice, we took into account the holistic approaches of physicians from past centuries.

After studying Avicenna’s Canon of Medicine, Huangdi Neijing (The Inner Canon of the Yellow Emperor), and the Ayurvedic physician Charaka’s Charaka Samhita, we became acquainted with many specialists and teachers from various countries. They not only provided us with valuable knowledge but also guided our path, until we eventually arrived at Ayurveda.

As a result of our dedicated work, the most ancient medical science and philosophical approach was revealed to us. For several years, we traveled to India for learning and professional exchange, until we became the first in Hungary to open our medical center, where Ayurvedic therapy is carried out by specialists originating from Kerala, the birthplace of Ayurveda in India.

In order to produce phytopreparations based on ancient treatises, we traveled to the Middle East in search of medicinal herbs. There, we found what we were looking for—we brought home approximately 800 different medicinal plants. From these, we prepared therapeutic formulations, and through our own experience we were able to confirm the vital importance of phytopreparations. The results were breathtaking. From this moment on, we date the activity of our own phytolaboratory, Calendula Pharma Co., where to this day we produce more than 2,500 phytopreparations.

The beginning

Initially, the CALENDULA Clinic specialized in the treatment of the musculoskeletal system—using massage, reflex therapy, and medicinal applications of phytotherapy. After Panchakarma (body cleansing) complemented with Ayurvedic treatments, we observed not only improvements in the condition of the spine, joints, and muscles, but also positive changes in other parameters.

Patients who suffered from metabolic disorders (e.g. obesity, high sugar and cholesterol levels) had their metabolic balance restored, weight normalised, blood rheological indicators improved, etc.

We have now expanded to treat metabolic, musculoskeletal, gastrointestinal, allergies, chronic conditions, neuroendocrine, neurological, cardiovascular and respiratory diseases (see other pages on this website for more information).

To this day

The clinic was originally built based on the concept of a physical and mental ashram, where everyone understands the cause of their illness and acquires the skills of a healthy lifestyle and way of thinking.

Once again, we witnessed what is called a miracle—the miracle of healing, the miracle of birth, and the miracle of help. The reason for this is deep faith, the guidance of spiritual mentors, and the trust of the patients.

Until 2015, our healing center was able to responsibly treat a maximum of 20 patients at a time. Our current capacity is more than double that, at 45 patients. In Siófok, we provide treatment in three separate buildings. These differ in comfort level: the classic Ayurvedic clinic, the new clinic hotel building, and the ECO house section. In addition, our CALENDULA outpatient clinic operates in Budapest.

With the support of the European Union and the help of our close friends, in 2012 we received significant financial resources to build our new four-star healing center. A few years later, in 2018, the four-star status of our health hotel was confirmed by Hotel Stars.

It should be noted that the new building was constructed using environmentally friendly technologies and materials. Its structure was designed according to the principles of Vastu Shastra, the ancient Vedic science of architecture and construction, in harmony with nature.

Every day we continue our studies, introduce innovations in the field of medicine, combine them with the results of alternative medical systems, and develop our own treatment methods. Our specialists hold consultations and lectures in various European countries, participate in educational projects and international conferences. And our story continues…
