The skeletal bones, ligaments, muscles and cartilage form the human musculoskeletal system. Its main functions are: locomotor, hematopoietic, protective, metabolic. Diseases of the musculoskeletal system are conventionally divided into diseases of the joints and diseases of the spine. Similar abnormalities can be either congenital or evoked.

Symptoms of disorders in the musculoskeletal system functioning are pain in the muscles, spine, joints, restriction of mobility, muscle oligotrophy.

The causes of such disorders are:
  • increased physical activity
  • injuries
  • physical inactivity
  • autoimmune changes
  • metabolic disorders
  • complications after infectious diseases
  • degenerative-dystrophic abnormalities (osteochondrosis, spondylarthrosis, arthrosis)
  • inflammatory conditions.
Diagnosis of the musculoskeletal system disorders includes interview and examination of the patient, assessment of neurological status, instrumental (radiography, MRI) and laboratory examinations (for example, under joint diseases). Ultrasound investigation is used to study the cervical and lumbar spine, assess the condition of ligaments, muscles, joints and tendons.
Treatment of diseases of the back and joints is one of the main directions of treatment of the CALENDULA clinic. This is where we started our practice. Therefore, we have in our arsenal the developments of a complex treatment of such diseases that can affect the symptoms, their initial cause, prevent development, achieve prolonged remission, promote the bone and joint tissues regeneration, and avoid surgical intervention. Each case is individual and requires a special approach.
Arthritis is an inflammation of the joints, accompanied by damage to the joint cartilage, capsule, synovium. The disease can be caused by reactive, infectious and allergic, dystrophic or metabolic disorders. The main symptoms of arthritis are arthralgia, local temperature increase, swelling, dysfunction and deformation of the damaged joint. The diagnosis is established on the basis of the clinical picture, as well as data from both laboratory and instrumental studies.

Arthrosis is a chronic joint disease resulting in the destruction of articular cartilage, pathological changes occur in the ligamentous apparatus, synovium, capsule and adjacent bone structures. The main reason for the disease development is a metabolic disorder. Arthrosis can also occur as a result of injuries, excessive load on the joint, congenital malformations, etc. The clinical picture: restriction of mobility, morning stiffness and pain in the affected joint.

Bursitis is an inflammation of the synovial bursa (bursa), followed by the inflammatory lymph formation and accumulation in its cavity. Acute joint bursitis, as a rule, occurs after an injury, chronic bursitis is a consequence of regular mechanical irritation. Clinically, the joint bursitis is manifested by an increase body temperature, hyperemia, swelling and pain in the affected bursa, a slight restriction of damaged joint mobility.

Protruded discs Intervertebral disks are the “gaskets” between vertebrae that give flexibility and strength to the spine. Each disk consists of a hard shell (fibrous ring) and a semi-fluid consistency (nucleus pulposus). Critical physical activity, metabolic disorders, scoliosis, injuries, changes in static equilibrium lead to the fibrous ring destruction. As a result, fluid from the nucleus flows out and pinches the spinal cord nerve terminals. When compressed, the disc protrudes in different directions, so there is a protruded disc. The disease is accompanied by acute pain, restriction of movement, in addition, it provokes complications such as gastritis, radiculitis, brain impaired circulatory, pelvic organs functioning, sensitivity disorders, etc.

Osteoarthrosis is the dystrophic changes in the joints, begin with cartilage tissue and are transferred to the entire osteoarticular apparatus. The symptoms of osteoarthritis are: pain in the affected joint, joint shape change, dysfunction. Treatment should be aimed at preventing the disease progression, reducing pain, recovering the affected joint functions.

Osteochondrosis is a chronic disease of the spine, which is characterized by degenerative changes in the intervertebral discs and vertebrae. Depending on the disease location, there are: cervical osteochondrosis, thoracic osteochondrosis and lumbar osteochondrosis. The main method for diagnosing the disease is radiography or MRI of the spine.

Osteochondrosis causes numerous painful syndromes, such as myofascial syndrome, nerve root pains, sciatica, coccyalgia, neurovascular lesions, headaches, visual impairment, head noise. In addition to mechanical compression of the spine roots and blood vessels, the most suffering from osteochondrosis cause pathological reflexes. This is due to the fact that in response to root irritation with a hernia or other altered structure of the spine, abnormal pulses cause a reflex spasm of cross-striated muscles (muscular tonic syndromes). The presence of such symptoms requires immediate treatment, since osteochondrosis syndromes can lead to both temporary disability and permanent disability.

Bone loss is a skeletal disease that manifests a change in bone tissue structure. Women are predisposed to this disease (with the onset of pre-menopause and menopause). Moreover, osteoporosis is difficult to diagnose, usually it proceeds asymptomatically. It is diagnosed post factum after, for example, the vertebral bodies, femoral neck or radius fracture. Prevention of osteoporosis is very important. There are such opportunities, including in Ayurvedic medicine.

Uratic arthritis – refers to diseases caused by metabolic disorders. It is characterized by the deposition of urate crystals in the form of uric acid in different tissues of the body. Excessive accumulation of uric acid leads to an increase in its concentration in the blood (hyperuricemia). Clinically, uratic arthritis is manifested by acute arthritis and tophi (gouty pearls) formation. Uratic arthritis, as a rule, affects the joints of the big toe, but the disease can also occur in the ankle, knee, elbow, wrist, fingers. Affected joints become red, swollen, warm. When the disease progresses, it is difficult to move the joints.

Scoliosis is a disease of the musculoskeletal system, characterized by lateral curvature of the spinal column. Its main symptoms include impaired posture, manner of walking changes, asymmetry in shoulders, shoulder blades and pelvis, back pain, headaches, rapid fatigability. This curvature can be congenital, evoked and post-traumatic. In the early stages, it is detected by an “on the tilt” test. But the main method for diagnosing scoliosis is radiography, MRI of the spinal column. The disease is insidious in that it provokes the development of other ailments, causes pain and discomfort. It deforms the spinal cord and spinal nerves, violates the collocation of the internal organs of the chest and abdominal cavity, promotes curvature of the vertebrae and salts deposition.

Several syndromes are also treated at CALENDULA:

  • myofascial pain syndrome
  • nerve root pains with lumbosacral radiculitis
  • sciatic nerve blockage (sciatica)
  • neurodystrophic and neurovascular lesions
  • vertebral artery syndrome (clinical expression is persistent
  • headache and dizziness)
  • cervicobrachial syndrome with persistent pain in the shoulder bone
  • inferior oblique muscle of head syndrome
  • reflex shoulder-scapular periarthrosis
  • pseudocardiological syndrome
  • dorsalgia, intermittent claudication syndrome.

We offer a comprehensive approach to the treatment of the musculoskeletal system diseases, including body detoxification, massages, special diet, therapeutic exercises, medications, and herbal medicine (purpose-made preparations nourish bone and muscle tissue, promote cell regeneration), and applications. Detoxification – Panchakarma procedures – in this case, it can affect the metabolic cause of such diseases occurrence, eliminate swelling and infections that cause inflammatory processes in the joints and muscles. A comprehensive approach implies an individual selection of massages and herbal formulations for their performance, a set of exercises and asanas, special formulations for applications and herbal formulations. To improve the condition of bones, joints and muscles, modern invasive and non-invasive agents are also used, which have proved their effectiveness in our practice.

Plasmotherapy (Patelet Rich Plasma, PRP) is an injection of the patient’s platelet rich plasma. Platelets as you known accelerate the process of damaged tissues recovery and wounds healing due to enhanced cell regeneration. Platelet rich plasma contains 3-5 times more growth factors, biologically active proteins than whole blood. In the treatment of musculoskeletal system disorders, this procedure allows you to arrest pain in the joint, recover articular cartilage, accelerate rehabilitation after injuries and surgical interventions.

Electric and wave therapy (Duolith) is a focused impact of the shock wave directed into the deep layers of tissues. The procedure is effective in the plantar fasciitis (calcaneal spur), calcified tendonitis (supraspinal tendon), ulnar epicondylitis, achillodynia, tibial stress syndrome treatment, in the action on myofascial trigger points, causing pain in the neck, shoulders, back.

Collagen injection for joints – a hyaluronic acid injection directly into the joint allows you to replete synovia, promote damaged tissue recovery, eliminates inflammation, and prevents the cartilage tissue destruction. This improves mobility, keeping physical activity. For each joint – knee, elbow, lumbar and cervical – injections of the focused action have been developed.

Metameric therapy – each segment of the spine has its own metameres – skin areas (dermatomeres), muscles (myomeres), vessels (vasomeres), tendons, ligaments and periosteum (skeletomeres), internal organs (visceromeres). Through exposure to them, it is possible to influence the spine segments. This is achieved by introducing into the receptor zones medications tropic to these tissues in minimal doses. The substance introduced has a direct effect on a specific tissue, causing a correct reaction in it. Depending on the motor disorders focalization, 10–20 points are chipped in one session along the main metameres.

Remedial blocks can relieve pain. Properly performed manipulation is akin to a successful surgery. If the medication is accurately injected, but the hernia is not sequestered (sequestration is a condition in which the intervertebral disk integrity is impaired, the disk nucleus substance flows out and separates from the disk), the pain reliefs on the same day.
